Having taken POLS2211 and working with Marianne on another research project I can say it is her enthusiasm, expertise and genuine compassion for students that makes her a stand-out teacher. I believe it’s one thing to be a great academic and it is another to be a great teacher, but Marianne thoughtfully bridges attributes of both sides to engage students in a meaningful way.
As a student, I always find her to be approachable, helpful and candid...in her tutorials, lectures and her office hours.
With respect to the thoughts and opinions shared by others on Marianne. I ask that you take her classes, engage with her as a student and make your own impression.

Her candour is something I value in her approach to teaching.
Marianne is quite possibly the worst lecturer I have ever had. The course (pols2211) is run in an order that makes very little sense, the essay questions do not easily draw from course content. Further, Marianne is completely unapproachable and unreachable, ignoring approximately 8 of my emails sent spaced throughout the semester. If she had maybe replied to even one of my emails and helped me this course would have been slightly easier but she didn't and it therefore wasn't.
I have honestly never undertaken a course I have been this disappointed in and I believe that most of the blame for this rests on Marianne's hand. I can't wait to take my 4 and get out of this nonsense.
